About

Welcome to Powerboat Photos, the aerial performance boat and photography site for Randy Nuzzo.

I have been photographing high performance boats since 2003.  I broke into the business purely by luck.  I was working with Karen Jennings, whose boyfriend at the time started a website which is now called speedwake.com.  Karen told me to join this new website.  I joined though I really didn't know why, but I'm member #64.  Sometime later, a gentleman named Steve Gresham, president of Richmond Power Boat Association, asked me who I was because he knew all the powerboaters in Richmond but didn't know me. I responded that I didn't have a boat but did have a camera, and if he ever needed a photographer to let me know. About two weeks later he called to ask me if I would like to get up in a helicopter and take pictures of performance boats.  You can't imagine how that felt when I hung up the phone. The Richmond Power Boat Association poker run was my first experience with boats and helicopters and I was able to shoot three more events my first year.

I consider myself successful in this business not by the amount of sales but by what I print and deliver to the boaters.  I know many of them personally and try to get the right shot, most times I do but with only 90-120 seconds to shoot a boat on a poker run it isn't always possible to do everything I want or get something new. But what I pick up a the printer and put in the mail is magical.  And I'm getting better every year...

So here I find myself in 2010, ready for another season above the water.  I am eternally grateful to Karen and Jeff Jennings for the contacts, Steve for giving me the chance of a lifetime, and my wife Susie for putting up with me and this business.
